The Panay Bukidnon–Ati Watchman Council of Elders, in partnership with the Pambansang Konseho ng Katutubong Mamamayan ng Pilipinas (PKKMP), formally commenced the Field-Based Community Self-Delineation activities for the claimed Native Title areas of the Betino–Oberio Clan and De Jose Clan.
The opening activities included:
Community orientation on the self-delineation process;
Registration and participation of community members, elders, and knowledge holders;
Documentation of oral history, genealogy, customary boundaries, Indigenous Knowledge Systems and Practices (IKSP), and traditional landmarks;
Initial community mapping and validation activities; and
A community peace offering ceremony conducted as part of the community’s customary traditions.
The activity seeks to gather historical, cultural, and documentary information that the community intends to use in support of its asserted Native Title through the appropriate legal and administrative processes.
The organizers expressed appreciation to the participating elders, residents, volunteers, and local stakeholders for their cooperation throughout the activity.
“Our heritage, our identity, and our history are preserved through unity, documentation, and respect for our customary traditions.”
